Since January, I have been in contact with many of the world’s most desired golf destinations to determine their willingness to host me and small groups of golfers using a somewhat new format. The foundations of the format is for you to experience unparalleled golf instruction as you play fantastic golf courses, and experiencing one-of-a-kind golf school vacations. All the destinations I have contacted are extremely interested in the format, and one destination is ready to announce.
And with the Ryder Cup beginning tomorrow, the timing is perfect to announce the first, of what will be many, Golf School Vacations at John Hughes Golf.
It is my honor and privilege to announce the first Golf School Vacations Experience will take place July 20-24, 2015 in Cambeltown Scotland, at Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club and the Ugadale Hotel!
Designed by David McLay Kidd and located on the Kyntre Peninsula of Scotland, Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club is a stern test of 7000+ yards that sits in an environmentally sensitive area of the Scottish West Coast. Kidd is known for his work designing Bandon Dunes Golf Course in Bend, Oregon, at the age of 27; St. Andrews Links Castle Course; and TPC San Fransisco Bay at Stonebrea. Kidd left the land as is, moving a small amount of earth to form the tee boxes and green complexes that allow you to maneuver through the natural dunes of the Scottish Coast. Machrihanish Dunes regularly hosts regional qualifying for the Open Championship as well as other competitive tournaments each year.
Ugadale Hotel is a boutique hotel experience. Its history dates back to the mid 1800’s when industry leaders from around the U.K. and Europe brought their families to the West Coast of Scotland for summer holidays. A recent redesign and remodeling of this coastal landmark provides you an opportunity to experience its rich history while enjoying modern amenities typically associated with any 4.5 Star hotel property in the world.
Coming with us will be the Coach of the #1 female player in the world, Joe Hallett. Joe and I have been great friends for almost 20-years, and he has graciously accepted my invitation to accompany me as our first Guest Instructor. Guest Instructors will be a highlighted feature of all Golf School Vacations no matter where we go. Thank you Joe for supporting this idea and being able to make your schedule work so you can join us next July!
There are many people to thank, who have inspired me to put these trips together. Four people who played very important roles in the planning of this particular trip are Jim and Nan Collins, great friends of mine who live in Glasgow and call Florida their second home. It is Jim and Nan’s continued support of this Experience, and the entire concept of Golf School Vacations that has continued to fuel my energy to make this happen. I also owe Jim a big thank you for introducing me to one of his best friends in Scotland, Ian Howarth, President of the Scottish Golf Union. It was Ian who provided introductions of me to many different golf venues in Scotland, some very well known and others, like Machrihanish Dunes that are not so known but provide the truest of Scottish golf experiences. It is through Ian’s continued support and introductions that Scotland will become an annual pilgrimage for us the week before or after the Open Championship. And a huge thank you to Connie Fortanbary of AAA Travel in Charlotte, North Carolina. Connie is a golfer and an expert at specialty group travel excursions. It is through Connie’s due diligence and late night hours that this Experience to Scotland came to completion.

Please come back often to visit. But more importantly, please share this exciting news with your entire golfing network and friends!
