Orlando Parkinson’s Golf Day

A Special Day for Normal People

The inspiration of Orlando Parkinson’s Golf Day is my Father, Jack, who at 77 walks 18-holes, 3-4 times weekly, and still shoots in the 80’s.

Orlando Parkinson’s Golf Day is a special group of golfers who meet on regular basis, all of whom have one thing in common; they live with, assist someone, or know someone who has Parkinson’s Disease.

I began this program after learning of my Father being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.  His Mother, my Grandmother, also lived with PD.  With my Father living more than 600 miles away in North Carolina, I wanted to learn more about the disease and find a way to assist him from far away.  Dad still walks 18-holes of golf 3-4 times a week, which is the inspiration of beginning a Parkinson’s Disease Golf Day in the greater Orlando area.  I reached out to the Parkinson’s Association of Florida (www.parkinsoncf.org), a non-profit organization that supports Central Florida residents living with Parkinson’s Disease.  They not only were excited to get behind my idea, Orlando Parkinson’s Golf Day now one of the many programs PACF sponsors and supports for people living with PD, as well as their family, friends and support group that help make life normal each day.  Also, I am honored to serve as a Member of the PACF Board of Directors, assisting PACF to create, sustain, and maintain quality of life for those who live with PD in Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties.

Orlando Parkinson’s Golf Day begins with a free clinic one-hour prior to the first tee time.

Orlando Parkinson’s Golf Day is normally the 2nd Tuesday of each Month, and is held at Falcon’s Fire Golf Club.  Tee times vary based on the time of year to avoid the heat of summer while being able to access the golf course at a reduced rate during the busy golf season. I conduct a free clinic for everyone who comes out, an hour before the first tee time.  And I also ride the course with everyone, assisting the PD Golfers as they play, and letting them know that the Central Florida Community wants all persons effected by Parkinson'[s Disease that they can still play golf and be active.

Orlando Parkinson’s Golf Day is open to those who live with Parkinson’s Disease, family or friends who are in charge of the care of the person living with PD, or anyone else who wants to play and supports the efforts to find a cure for PD.  RSVP is required so Falcon’s Fire Golf Club knows how many to expect.

Thanks for your support of Orlando Parkinson’s Golf Day! We look forward to seeing you out on the course with us soon.
